This Has To Be The Worst Place To Sit

Sitting is a position of human body that is supported by the buttocks or thighs where the torso is more or less upright.

The origins of the position are in dispute. Although many art pieces of Antiquity show individuals in various stages of sitting, it is thought that it did not become common practice until well into the 19th Century. Henri, Count of Chambord claimed to have invented sitting in 1834, but much like his alleged seven day reign as King of France, many challenge the veracity of the claim.

The most common way of sitting on the floor involves bending the knees. One can also sit with the legs unbent, using something solid as support for the back or leaning on one’s arms.

Sitting with bent legs can be done along two major lines; one with the legs mostly parallel and one where they cross each other. The parallel position is reminiscent of, and is sometimes used for, kneeling. The latter is a common pose for meditating.

One variation that is highly unusual is the ‘chicken wing’ style. One would have their legs outwards facing backwards instead of folding them in front of them-self.

This Family Has Some Unusual Pets

A pet (also called a companion animal) is an animal kept primarily for a person’s company or protection, as opposed to working animals, sport animals, livestock, and laboratory animals, which are kept primarily for performance, agricultural value, or research. The most popular pets are noted for their attractive appearances and their loyal or playful personalities.

Pets commonly provide their owners (or guardians) physical and emotional benefits. Walking a dog can supply both the human and pet with exercise, fresh air, and social interaction. Pets can give companionship to elderly adults who do not have adequate social interaction with other people. There is a medically approved class of therapy animals, mostly dogs; that are brought to visit confined humans. Pet therapy utilizes trained animals and handlers to achieve specific physical, social, cognitive, and emotional goals with patients.

The most popular pets are likely dogs and cats, but people sometimes keep house rabbits, ferrets; rodents such as gerbils, hamsters, chinchillas, fancy rats, and guinea pigs; avian pets, such as canaries, parakeets, and parrots; reptile pets, such as turtles, lizards and snakes; aquatic pets, such as tropical fish and frogs; and arthropod pets, such as tarantulas and hermit crabs.

Some scholars and animal rights organizations have raised concern over pet-keeping with regards to the autonomy of nonhuman animals.

Combining Two Guns Into One Awesome Gun

A gun is a normally tubular weapon or another device designed to discharge projectiles or other materials. The projectile may be solid, liquid, gas or energy and even may be free, as with bullets and artillery shells, or captive as with Taser probes and whaling harpoons.

The means of projection varies according to design but is usually affected by the action of gas pressure, either produced through the rapid combustion of a propellant or compressed and stored by mechanical means, operating on the projectile inside an open-ended tube in the fashion of a piston. The confined gas accelerates the projectile down the length of the tube imparting sufficient velocity to sustain the projectile’s travel once the action of the gas ceases at the end of the tube or muzzle. Alternatively, acceleration via electromagnetic field generation may be employed in which case the tube may be dispensed with and a guide rail substituted.

The first devices identified as guns appeared in China around 1000AD, and by the 12th century the technology was spreading through the rest of Asia, and into Europe by the 13th century. The origin of the English word gun is presently considered to derive from the name given to a particular historical weapon.

Domina Gunilda was the name given to a remarkably large ballista, a mechanical bolt throwing weapon of huge size, mounted at Windsor Castle during the 14th century. This name in turn may have derived from the Old Norse woman’s proper name Gunnhildr which combines two Norse words referring to battle.

In any case the term gonne or gunne was applied to early hand-held firearms by the late 14th century or early 15th century.

A Smashing Cosplay Of Nigel Thornberry

The Wild Thornberrys is an American animated TV series that aired on Nickelodeon. It was a rerun in the United States on Nickelodeon and occasionally Nicktoons until 2007.

The show returned to The ’90s Are All That for one night, and aired on March 21, 2013. The show aired on Nicktoonsters in the UK. Following Shout! Factory acquisition of the title in February 2011, all 5 series have been released on DVD.

The series focuses around a nomadic family of documentary filmmakers known as the Thornberrys, who are famous for their televised wildlife studies.

It primarily centers on the family’s younger daughter Eliza, who has a secret gift to communicate with animals, bestowed upon her after having rescued a shaman masquerading as a trapped wild animal and thus enabling her to talk to the Thornberrys’ adopted pet chimpanzee Darwin.

Together, the pair frequently ventures through the wilderness, befriending endless species of wild animals along the way or making realizations of vital morals through either their experiences or a particular animal species’ lifestyle, or simply assisting the creatures with which they become acquainted in their difficulties.

The Wild Thornberrys was produced by Klasky Csupo for Nickelodeon. It premiered in September 1998, and was the first Nicktoon to exclusively use 22-minute stories (episodes of other Nicktoons usually featured two 10 – 11-minute stories, using 22-minute stories only on occasion).

Tiny Fish That Will Give You Nightmares For A Week

The deep-sea dragon fish is a member of the Stomiidae family. There are many genera and over two hundred different species altogether in this family. The most known about is the Barbeled dragon fish.

Deep-sea dragon fish lives in the deep parts of the Atlantic Ocean beyond where any plant life grows or light reaches, hence its name. This habitat has caused the dragon fish to adapt to the conditions at these depths by having light-producing organs called photophores and skeletons that better suit deep-sea life.

The deep-sea dragon fish, as its name states, lives in the deep-sea of the Pacific Ocean. The Dragon fish tends to live around 1000 to 3000 meters below the surface.

Some dragon fish have even been found at depths of 5000 meters. At these depths, the conditions are very extreme. The pressure can range from 200 to 600 atmospheres and the temperatures fall just below four degrees Celsius. The dragon fish lives below the Bathyal zone where no light reaches.

The Bathyal zone starts at about 220 meters. Past this point, there is no light, and it is deep enough to not be affected by storms or ocean currents, making the environment where the dragon fish lives utterly still.

Quite An Unusual Thing To See While Whale Watching

Whale is commonly used for various marine mammals of the order Cetacea. The term whale sometimes refers to all cetaceans, but more often it excludes dolphins and porpoises, which belong to the suborder Odontoceti (toothed whales).

This suborder includes the sperm whale, killer whale, pilot whale, and beluga whale.

The other Cetacean suborder, Mysticeti (baleen whales), comprises filter feeders that eat small organisms caught by straining seawater through a comb like structure found in the mouth called baleen.

This suborder includes the blue whale, the humpback whale, the bowhead whale and the minke whale. All cetaceans have forelimbs modified as fins, a tail with horizontal flukes, and nasal openings (known as blowholes) on top of the head.

Whales range in many different sizes from the blue whale, the largest animal known to have ever existed at 30 m and 180 tons, to pygmy species such as the pygmy sperm whale at 3.5 m.

Whales inhabit all the world’s oceans and number in the millions, with annual population growth rate estimates for various species ranging from 3% to 13%.

Whales are long-lived, humpback whales living for up to 77 years, while bowhead whales may live for over a century.

Going Too Far In Order To Cool Off

An apartment (in American English) or a flat (in British English) is a self-contained housing unit that only occupies a small part of a building. Such a building may be called an apartment building, apartment house), block of flats, tower block, high-rise or, occasionally mansion block, especially if it consists of many apartments for rent. In Scotland it is often called a tenement, which has a pejorative connotation elsewhere. Apartments may be owned by an owner/occupier by leasehold tenure or rented by tenants.

The term apartment is favored in North America and it is also the preferred term in Ireland. The term flat is commonly, but not exclusively, used in the UK, Singapore, Hong Kong and most Commonwealth nations.

In Malaysian English, flat often denotes a housing block of lesser quality meant for lower-income groups, while apartment is more generic and may also include luxury condominiums. This usage has also been appearing in British English where apartment is used to denote expensive ‘flats’ in exclusive and expensive residential areas in, for example, parts of London such as Belgravia and Hampstead.

In Australian English, the term flat was traditionally used, but the term apartment is also frequently used, as is “unit,” short for “home unit”.

Turning A Church In A Beautiful House

A church building, but it is usually called a church, is a building used for religious activities, particularly worship services. The term in its architectural sense is most often used by Christians to refer to their religious buildings; however it can be used by other religions. In traditional Christian architecture, the church is often arranged in the shape of a Christian cross.

When viewed from plan view the longest part of a cross is represented by the aisle and the junction of the cross is located at the altar area. Towers or domes are often added with the intention of directing the eye of the viewer towards the heavens and inspiring church visitors. Modern church buildings have many architectural styles and layouts; many buildings that were designed for other purposes have now been converted for church use; and, similarly, many original church buildings have been put to other uses.

The earliest identified Christian house church is the Dura-Europos church, founded between 233 and 256. During the 11th through 14th centuries, a wave of building of cathedrals and smaller parish churches occurred across Western Europe. In addition to being a place of worship, the cathedral or parish church was used by the community in other ways.

It could serve as a meeting place for guilds or a hall for banquets. Mystery plays were sometimes performed in cathedrals, and cathedrals might also be used for fairs. The church could be used as a place to thresh and store grain.

Giant Suspension Bridge Made From Rope In Peru

A suspension bridge is one type of a bridge in which the deck is hung below suspension cables on vertical suspenders. The first modern examples of this type of bridge were built in the early 19th century. Bridges without vertical suspenders have a long history in many mountainous parts of the world.

This type of bridge has cables suspended between towers, plus vertical suspender cables that carry the deck below, upon which traffic crosses. This arrangement allows the deck to be level or to arc upward for additional clearance. Like other suspension bridge types, this type often is constructed without false work.

The suspension cables must be anchored at each end of the bridge, since any load applied to the bridge is transformed into a tension in these main cables. The main cables continue beyond the pillars to deck-level supports, and further continue to connections with anchors in the ground.

The roadway is supported by vertical suspender cables or rods, called hangers. In some circumstances, the towers may sit on a bluff or canyon edge where the road may proceed directly to the main span, otherwise the bridge will usually have two smaller spans, running between either pair of pillars and the highway, which may be supported by suspender cables or may use a truss bridge to make this connection.

In the latter case there will be very little arc in the outboard main cables.

Saving A Bear From Certain Doom

Bears are huge mammals that belong to the family Ursidae. Bears are classified as caniforms, or dog like carnivores, with the pinnipeds being their closest living relatives. Although only eight species of bears are extant, they are widespread, appearing in a wide variety of habitats throughout the Northern Hemisphereand partially in the Southern Hemisphere. Bears are found on the continents of North America, South America, Europe, and Asia.

Common characteristics of modern bears include big bodies with stocky legs, long snouts, shaggy hair, plantigrade paws with five nonretractile claws, and short tails. While the polar bear is mostly carnivorous, and the giant panda feeds almost entirely on bamboo, the remaining six species are omnivorous with varied diets.

With the exception of courting individuals and mothers with their young, bears are typically solitary animals. They are generally diurnal, but may be active during the night or twilight, particularly around humans. Bears possess an excellent sense of smell and, despite their heavy build and awkward gait, are adept runners, climbers, and swimmers.

In autumn, some bear species forage large amounts of fermented fruits, which affects their behavior. Bears use shelters, such as caves and burrows, as their dens; most species occupy their dens during the winter for a long period (up to 100 days) of sleep similar to hibernation.
