Torywood contains Scotland’s best kept secret which is Scotland’s Secret Bunker. This underground site was kept a secret for 40 years after the World War II. Scotland’s Secret Bunker is a secret underground site with 24,000 square feet of accommodation at two levels. It has not been turned into one of Scotland’s most significant tourist attractions.
The secret bunker was build to shield important government officials from the nuclear war that thankfully never happened. Nuclear war was always a possibility during the World War II. However, when you come face to face with the preparations that were made to actually make it happen, it can give you the chills to see how things would have turned out to be if it had in fact happen. The Bunker was started as an underground radar station operated by the RAF. It was used to spot Russian bombers and direct flights to intercept them.
