We have been fed with a lot of information about our world and our culture by marketers and advertisers. They shape our attitudes and personalities by creating make believe worlds and inducing us to buy their products in order to be a part of those worlds. But, it is interesting to see how advertising was used when it first started appearing in print. In a world where information was not as easily available as it is in the age of the internet, it was easy for advertisers to say what they wanted and get away with it. It is almost horrifying to see the level of discrimination against blacks as well as women that exists in these ads as well as the level of sexuality used at that time.
