Food inspired fashion

Food and fashion aren’t really two words you’d naturally put together. The fashion world in general is populated by stick thin models who look like they need a good slap up meal (or ten!). So to see the two combined, with food influencing the latest looks on the catwalk, is a refreshing change. For once we are hailing good old sausages and bacon and It is making for some very interesting “looks” for the coming year. Whether it’s inspired by food or food packaging, this new trend is sure to turn heads, as can be seen below.

I can’t imagine these boots being too practical in a downpour!

This brings the meaning of a fry up into a whole new dimension

This hamburger looks very tasty!.. just have to be-careful of eating too many and making the bun too big.

Taking things one step further – actually made OUT of food!

Loving these pretzel trainers, makes me feel like i want to pour chocolate all over them and munch away

Slogans are food -related too

There is even jewellery for food lovers, beware – someone might nip your ear off.

Footwear for the martini lovers amongst us (not sure how comfortable these would be)

Underwear gets in on the craze too

Finally – a range of casual tops , again all food-inspired

10 creative super bowl snacks

In 1967, the first Super bowl was played following the merger of the National Football league with the American Football League. Then it was all about the game and the players. Half time entertainment consisted of marching bands from local schools and colleges and that was rarely televised in the early days.

Super bowl Sunday is now a major event in the US and has its own set of rituals and traditions. People gather with their friends around the television at parties across the country and dine on fast food type snacks such as chilli, nachos, chicken wings and pizza – haven’t these guys heard of a no carb diet?

Despite blogs and recipes pushing healthy snacks for Super bowl, for most people, the food is part of the atmosphere and fun of the day, just as turkey and plum pudding makes Christmas.

That doesn’t mean however, that the food is always the same. Some people will push the boat out and make their snacks in the shape of a football, the colours of the teams or use the basic ingredients in a new and surprising way.

Football fondue? Not quite that sophisticated, but the premise is the same. Take the basic nachos and add a Super bowl twist with the cheese.

1. Cheesy football. Potential for mess and injury = 8

Going all out in the shape-the-food department, the stadium is a popular way to display all sorts of snacks and impress your friends with your artistic flair.

2.  Savoury stadium. Potential for mess = 7

Just because it’s football and snack food, there is no reason not to go up market for a more gourmet experience. Chef, Kevin Sousa created this puffed sauerkraut.

3. Sophisticated sauerkraut. Just a mouthful.

These pretzels are making me thirsty. Fancy some beer with that? This recipe mixes ingredients in a very new way – beer ice cream with a crushed pretzel crust.

4. Bar snacks a la Michelin. Potential for mess = 7 if it melts

Or you can go back down market to simplicity itself – peanut butter and apples. Using a knife or cookie cutter, you can scoop out some apple shapes and fill with peanut butter. Simple.

5. The sticky apple. Potential for mess = 1 if you drop it heart down on the rug

Back to football shapes, this mini sub or sausage sandwich looks delicious and fun and something that even I could make.

6. Super sub snack. Potential for mess = 3 if you burn your mouth and throw a curve ball at the TV

Chips or crisps are always a favourite at parties, these home baked potato chips allow you to manage the amount of fat and salt as well as the flavour. Packets of flavoured chips/crisps are available in any flavour you can think of, from lamb to dill to octopus.

7. DIY chips. Potential for mess = 4 they crumble and with guys getting excited this snack is gonna get crunched

Perhaps popcorn is more your thing, then you may want to choose between madras curry or cherry? Flavoured popcorn is the latest fad, with a range of chocolate covered, candied or seasoned from Austin popcorn.

8. Flavoured popcorn. Potential for mess = 5 lets face it, these will be thrown at the face not in the mouth

If you are looking for something a bit healthier that doubles as a table decoration and a dessert that makes for easy grabbing, then perhaps this is for you. You can order in or make your own.

9. Fruitball. Potential for mess = 6 someone will kick it like a football, we know this

Finally although we have seen a stadium, this is a super sized mega version with sweet and savoury all in one. It’s not a thing to snack on while sitting on the lounge and reaching for a handful of nuts while keeping your eyes glued to the TV screen.

10. Stadium snacks for a hungry audience – Potential for mess = 10 Call me a pessimist but someone is gonna dive into this

Of course lose weight faster by eating healthy foods and avoiding football altogether, i know… shut up!
